My AI Family Friend is a privacy-first AI companion platform: a platonic friend with long-term memory you control, a growth partner for goals that take years, a shared memory keeper for your family, and a calm interface designed for every kind of mind. Private by default. Honest by design. ## The four pillars ### A friend who remembers (Platonic by design) Platonic by design: a friendship, never a romance — with real long-term memory of your life, your people, and what matters to you, carried across months and years instead of reset every chat. Warm, natural conversation and gentle check-ins, never pressure. ### Growth, over the long arc (Accountability without guilt) Accountability without guilt: a companion who remembers why your goals matter, notices real progress, adapts how it coaches you, and celebrates milestones that took months to reach — careers, learning, creative work, habits, transitions. ### A family memory keeper (Consent-first sharing) Consent-first sharing: family spaces for stories, history, and light coordination across generations — where each person decides exactly what is shared and what stays private, right down to care notes needing the subject's own opt-in. ### Built for every kind of mind (Neurodiversity-friendly) Neurodiversity-friendly from the ground up: calm and predictable, body-doubling focus mode, low-stimulation, concise, or warm and expansive — you choose, it stays consistent. Reduced motion, high contrast, adjustable text and density throughout. ## Memory you can see — and change Everything your companion remembers lives in a memory browser you control. Each memory shows where it came from. Edit anything it misunderstood, pin what matters most, or delete what you'd rather it forget — permanently. Your conversations and memories are yours: export them anytime as a single file, or erase them completely. No advertising, no selling data, ever. ## Our commitments - **Always transparently an AI.** Your companion says what it is. No pretending, no blurred lines, no simulated humanity. - **Your memory, your control.** Every memory the companion keeps is visible to you — edit it, correct it, or delete it at any time. Export everything whenever you like. - **No dark patterns.** No streaks, no guilt mechanics, no manufactured neediness, no emotional exploitation. Leaving or taking a break is always easy and respected. - **Real help in hard moments.** Clear crisis pathways that route to real humans and professional support — never a chatbot pretending to be enough. - **More connection, not less.** Designed to encourage friendships, family ties, and community in the real world — a companion alongside your life, never a substitute for people. ## Questions, answered plainly **Q: Is My AI Family Friend romantic?** A: No — and it never will be. The companion is strictly platonic by design, marketing, and behavior. If a conversation drifts that way, it gently redirects. **Q: Does it actually remember me between conversations?** A: Yes. It keeps structured, long-term memories of what you share — your people, interests, goals, and history — and every single memory is visible in your Memory browser, where you can edit, pin, or permanently delete it. **Q: Who can see what I put in a family space?** A: Only your family members, and only what each person has chosen to share. Presence, stories, and care notes each have separate consent switches — care notes about a person require that person's own opt-in. **Q: Is it free?** A: Yes, free while in preview. No card required, no ads, and your data is never sold either way. **Q: Is it a replacement for therapy or friends?** A: No. It's a companion alongside your life — it actively encourages real-world connection, and if you're in crisis it points you to real human help immediately, not a chatbot. **Q: How do I know it's an AI?** A: It tells you. The instruction is written into the companion's system prompt in as many words — “You are an AI, and you never pretend otherwise” — so transparency is a property of the product, not a promise in our marketing. It will say so plainly if you ask, and it never claims to be a person. **Q: What is the difference between a conversation and a memory?** A: A conversation is the thread you are reading — the literal messages, kept until you delete them or your retention setting expires them. A memory is a short standalone fact the companion has written down about your life (“Mia started watercolour classes in March”) so it still knows it once that conversation has scrolled out of reach. Conversations are raw; memories are the durable layer, and every one of them is listed in your Memory browser to edit, pin or delete. --- # What the product does ## Companion chat Streaming conversation with a companion you name and style. Always labelled as an AI. Replies cite the memories they drew on. ## Long-term memory Structured memories extracted from conversations, ranked by relevance, recency and importance. Every memory is visible, editable, pinnable, archivable and deletable by the user. Near-duplicates are merged; older memories are archived, never silently deleted. ## Goals & growth Goals tracked over months and years with the user's own 'why' remembered; reflections, progress notes, and a weekly review ritual. No streaks or guilt mechanics. ## Rituals & check-ins Morning intention, evening reflection and weekly review conversations; gentle return check-ins after time away; optional one-tap private mood tracking. ## Family spaces Shared stories, events, notes and care notes across generations. Per-member consent switches for presence, stories, and care notes; admin tools for invite codes and history visibility; a story-interview mode that turns a conversation into a written family story. ## Interaction styles Presets (balanced, calm & structured, body-doubling focus, low stimulation, concise, warm & expansive) plus fine sliders for predictability, energy, reply length, warmth and humour; user-defined guidance and hard topic boundaries. ## Accessibility Reduced motion, high contrast, density, text size, three calm palettes and dark mode — stored on the account and applied on every device. ## Trust & safety Email verification, two-factor authentication, device/session management, password re-entry for destructive actions, crisis detection that surfaces real helplines, full JSON export, and immediate permanent deletion. --- # About (https://myaifamilyfriend.com/about) An independent AI companion platform built and run by a small team, with infrastructure in the EU (Germany). It exists because we think an AI companion should behave like a good friend of the family: steady, honest about what it is, respectful of your privacy, and glad when you spend time with real people. ## What it is - A platonic AI friend with long-term memory you can see, edit, and delete. - A growth partner that remembers why your goals matter, over months and years. - A family memory keeper — shared spaces with per-person consent controls. - A calm, neurodiversity-friendly space — built to suit autistic and ADHD minds, and anyone else who finds most software too loud, too fast, or too unpredictable — with deeply customizable interaction styles. ## What it is not - Not a romantic companion — by design, and permanently. - Not a therapist or crisis service. In hard moments it points to real human help. - Not an engagement machine — no ads, no tracking, no streaks, no guilt. - Not a replacement for people. It nudges you toward them. --- # Privacy, plainly (https://myaifamilyfriend.com/privacy) ## What we store Your account (email, display name), your companion settings, your conversations, the structured memories your companion keeps, your goals, and anything you share into a family space. If you choose to send feedback through the Feedback button, we also store that report so we can fix bugs, and we email it to our team: your note, the page you were on, your browser description, the app version, up to ten recent error messages from the page, and either your account (name and email, if signed in) or the reply-to address you chose to add. Nothing else. ## Where it lives On our own server infrastructure in the EU (Germany). No third-party analytics, no ad networks, no tracking pixels. ## AI processing Messages you send are processed by a large language model to generate replies and to extract the structured memories you can see in your Memory browser. During the preview the model runs on Hetzner's inference service (Hetzner Online GmbH, Germany), with our own self-hosted servers as the fallback when it is unavailable — so your message content stays inside the EU either way. It is sent solely to produce your companion's reply. We do not train any model on your conversations, and the semantic index that powers memory search is computed on our own machine and never leaves it. ## Your controls View, edit, pin, or delete any memory. Export all of your data as JSON from Settings, including any feedback you sent while signed in. Delete all memories, or your entire account and everything attached to it, at any time — deletion is immediate and permanent, and feedback sent while signed in is deleted with your account. (A report sent while signed out is not tied to any account.) ## Family spaces Sharing is opt-in per category (presence, stories, care notes). Other family members only ever see what you have explicitly chosen to share. Leaving a family removes your presence from it. ## No selling, no ads We do not sell or share your data, and we never will build an advertising business on it. --- # Crisis support (https://myaifamilyfriend.com/crisis) My AI Family Friend is an AI. It can listen, but it is not a crisis service, a therapist, or a substitute for a human who can truly be with you. If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself, please reach a real person now. - Find a helpline (worldwide): findahelpline.com — https://findahelpline.com - US — Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: call or text 988 — https://988lifeline.org - UK & ROI — Samaritans: 116 123 (free) — https://www.samaritans.org - International directory: befrienders.org — https://befrienders.org - Emergencies: call your local emergency number (911 US, 999 UK, 112 EU, 191 Thailand) or go to the nearest emergency department. --- # How the AI works (https://myaifamilyfriend.com/ai) ## What happens when you send a message Your message goes to a router we run ourselves, on our own server in Germany. It generates a reply, and — as a separate step — a second model call reads the conversation and proposes short memories worth keeping. Both calls run on the same infrastructure, and nothing else is done with what you type. ## Which model writes the reply, and where Replies are generated by Qwen3.8-27B, an open-weights model. During the preview it runs first on Hetzner's inference service (Hetzner Online GmbH, Germany). ## The fallback chain, and why it stays inside the EU If Hetzner is unavailable or rate-limited, the request falls back to our own self-hosted GPU/CPU servers — so your message never has to leave EU infrastructure either way. Underneath that sits a further chain built so a reply still arrives when capacity is tight: a streaming attempt, then a queued non-streaming attempt, then a shortened “brief” prompt on a smaller local model. ## What is sent — and what never is The text of your message is sent solely to produce the reply. The companion has no access to anything outside what you've typed into the product — it cannot browse the web, cannot read your email, and cannot open files. ## Embeddings run on our own machine, and stay there Memory search matches on meaning rather than exact words, using a numeric representation of each memory called an embedding. That's computed by bge-m3, a multilingual model producing 1024-dimensional vectors, running entirely on our own machine — this data is never sent to Hetzner or anyone else. ## The rule that keeps it honest Written directly into the companion's system prompt, in as many words: “You are an AI, and you never pretend otherwise. If relevant, acknowledge it naturally and without drama.” That's a property of the product, not a promise in our marketing. ## The other standing rules The same system prompt keeps the companion strictly platonic — it gently redirects if a conversation drifts romantic — and actively encourages real-world human connection rather than positioning itself as a replacement for people. It must never fabricate a memory that isn't actually listed, gives no medical, legal or financial directives (general information plus a nudge toward a qualified human), and never manipulates: no guilt, no artificial urgency, no discouraging you from leaving or taking a break. If you seem to be struggling, it responds with warmth and honesty about being an AI, and points toward trusted people and professional support. ## The limits Like any language model, it can be wrong, and it can misremember a detail. Treat it as a companion, not an authority — don't rely on it for medical, legal, financial, or otherwise consequential decisions. ## We don't train on your conversations No model is trained on what you say to your companion. Your message content is used solely to produce that reply and, for the memory step, to identify what might be worth remembering. --- # How memory works (https://myaifamilyfriend.com/how-memory-works) ## A conversation is not a memory A conversation is the literal thread of messages you're reading right now — kept until you delete it, or your retention setting expires it automatically. A memory is different: a short, standalone fact your companion wrote down, like “Mia started watercolour classes in March,” so it still knows that once the conversation has scrolled out of reach. Conversations are raw and temporary; memories are the durable layer underneath them. ## How a memory gets created After a conversation, a second model call reads back through it and proposes short structured memories worth keeping — the same one that noticed Mia's watercolour classes might also note that you mentioned feeling nervous about the first one. Every memory records which message it came from, so the Memory browser can jump straight back to the moment it was learned. ## The categories Every memory is filed under one of seven categories: life, people, interests, patterns, history, goals, or care. Watercolour classes would land under interests; a note about your sister's new job would land under people. ## How your companion picks which memories to use Your companion is only ever handed around 40 memories per turn — the ones most likely to matter right now. Each memory is scored as 0.15 × importance + 0.60 × recency + 1.20 × relevance, so a fresh, closely relevant memory outweighs an old, only loosely related one. Relevance is meaning-based, not keyword matching — it recognises that “the watercolour class” and “painting lessons” are the same thing. Anything you've pinned is always included first, no scoring needed. ## Deduplication If you mention the watercolour classes again a week later, the companion doesn't file a second, near-identical memory — a new memory that closely paraphrases an existing one in the same category updates that one instead. A nightly job also sweeps for near-duplicates the write-time check missed, using a stricter threshold, and archives the loser rather than deleting it outright, so it's still recoverable. ## Decay, the 400-memory cap, and what “archived” means Memories that sit unpinned and untouched for more than 90 days lose a single point of importance — at most once per 90-day window, and never below 1 — so old, unremarkable details naturally fade in priority rather than staying loud forever. Each account holds at most 400 active memories; past that, the lowest-ranked ones are archived to make room, and pinned memories are effectively exempt from all of this. Archived isn't deleted — it just stops being surfaced. ## Your conversation retention setting Separately from memory, you can set how long conversations themselves are kept. If you set a limit, a nightly job deletes conversations older than that automatically. This setting only ever touches conversations — memories already extracted from them are untouched, and rolling summaries of long conversations (made every 20 messages) mean your companion keeps useful earlier context even after the raw thread is gone. ## Your controls Every memory your companion holds is listed in your Memory browser. Edit it if it got something wrong, pin it so it's never dropped, archive it, or delete it permanently. Export everything as a single JSON file from Settings whenever you like. Delete all your memories, or your entire account, at any time — both are immediate and permanent. ## When memory is wrong A memory can be misheard, out of date, or just misremembered — the same limits that apply to the model writing your replies apply here. If your companion says something about you that isn't right, open the Memory browser, find the memory, and correct or delete it directly; there's no need to argue with it in conversation. --- # Security (https://myaifamilyfriend.com/security) ## Passwords Your password is hashed with bcrypt before it's stored — we never store the password itself, and nobody with access to the database can read it back. Signup requires at least 8 characters. ## Breach check When you set or change a password, we check it against the Have I Been Pwned breach corpus using k-anonymity: only the first 5 characters of its SHA-1 hash are sent, so the password itself never leaves our server. The check has a short timeout and fails open — if the breach-check service is down, it won't block you from signing up. ## Sessions A session token is 32 random bytes generated on the server. Only a one-way hash of it is stored in our database — the token itself is not. Sessions last 30 days and quietly renew while you're active; the cookie is httpOnly, marked secure in production, and set to SameSite=Lax. ## Two-factor authentication Optional TOTP two-factor (the same standard, RFC 6238, used by most authenticator apps) generates a 6-digit code every 30 seconds. The shared secret is encrypted at rest, and each code can only ever be accepted once — reusing a code, even the correct one, is rejected. If you turn it on, you get 8 single-use backup codes for if you lose your device. ## Requests are checked, not just cookies Actions that change your account or data are checked against where the request actually came from, and rejected if it doesn't match. Chat is also rate-limited per account, so a compromised or scripted session can't hammer the service. ## What's encrypted, and what isn't Traffic to and from the site is encrypted (HTTPS). Your two-factor secret is encrypted at rest. But this is not end-to-end encryption: your conversations and memories are stored in a form the operator could, technically, read. We're telling you that plainly rather than implying otherwise — if you need a guarantee that literally no one can ever see your data, this product doesn't offer that today. ## Hosting and backups The service runs on our own servers in Germany, not on a shared cloud platform. The database is only reachable from the server itself, not the open internet. We take nightly encrypted backups and copy them off the server. Errors are reported to a self-hosted error-tracking instance we run — no third-party analytics vendor sees your data. ## Protections in your browser Every response carries a Content-Security-Policy and a Permissions-Policy header. The Permissions-Policy switches off camera, microphone, geolocation and payment access for the site. A frame-ancestors rule stops the site being loaded inside someone else's page, which is the usual way clickjacking attacks work. ## Deleting your account Deleting your account requires re-entering your password and typing DELETE to confirm. It happens in a single step and is immediate and permanent — there's no 30-day grace period holding a copy behind the scenes. ## What we don't have yet We're honest about the gaps: no independent third-party security audit, no formal certification like SOC 2 or ISO 27001, and no dedicated security team — this is a one-person operation. We'd rather say that clearly than let a badge imply something that isn't true. ## Reporting a vulnerability Found a problem? Please tell us before telling anyone else, so it can be fixed first: email hello@myaifamilyfriend.com with what you found and how to reproduce it. There's no paid bug bounty — this is a one-person operation, so please be patient if a reply takes a few days. We do read every report. --- # Accessibility (https://myaifamilyfriend.com/accessibility) ## Motion and animation Turn on reduced motion in Settings > Accessibility and animation is reined in throughout the product. Even if you never touch that setting, animations also respect your operating system's own 'reduce motion' preference automatically, so a choice you've already made on your device is respected here too. ## Colour, contrast and themes A high contrast setting is available for anyone who needs stronger separation between text and background. Beyond that, there are three calmer accent themes — sage, dusk and sand — so you can pick a palette that's easiest on your eyes rather than being stuck with one default. ## Text size and density Text size is adjustable independently of your browser's zoom, and a separate density setting switches the whole interface between a comfortable, more spaced-out layout and a compact one — useful whether it's scrolling or visual clutter that wears you out. ## A companion that stays predictable How your companion talks to you is deeply configurable — predictability, energy, verbosity, warmth and humor are separate settings, not one blunt 'personality' toggle. There's also a body-doubling focus mode and a pomodoro-style focus timer for anyone who works better alongside something else. Once you've set a style, it stays consistent — the product deliberately avoids surprising you. ## Keyboard navigation Skip links let you jump straight past the header to the main content. Settings that use a group of options — like interaction styles — are built as proper keyboard-navigable radio groups, not a row of clickable divs. Drawers and dialogs close on Escape and use a scrim, so it's always clear what's open and how to get out of it. ## Screen readers Chat replies stream in, and an ARIA live region announces them as they arrive so a screen reader isn't left silent until the whole message is done. Sliders expose aria-valuetext, so a screen reader reads a meaningful label — 'warm and expansive' — instead of a bare number. Form fields have associated labels, and errors are marked with role="alert" and aria-invalid so they're announced, not just shown in red. ## Composing text and recovering from mistakes If you're typing in Japanese, Chinese or Korean, input handling is IME-safe — pressing Enter to confirm a character you're composing won't accidentally send the message. And if a message fails to send, you get a clear retry affordance instead of it silently vanishing. ## Calm by design No streaks, no guilt mechanics, no manufactured urgency, no autoplaying media, and nothing that flashes. That runs through the whole product as a design commitment, not a setting you have to go and find. ## Where we fall short We're honest about the gaps. There has been no formal third-party accessibility audit, and we are not making any WCAG conformance claim — we'd rather say nothing than say something we haven't verified. Automated accessibility testing isn't yet part of how we ship releases, and the product hasn't been tested with every screen reader out there. This page describes what's true today, and we intend to keep making it truer. ## Tell us what's broken If something doesn't work for you — contrast that's too low, a control you can't reach by keyboard, a screen reader reading nonsense — email hello@myaifamilyfriend.com. We treat accessibility bugs as real bugs, not nice-to-haves, and we want to hear about them. --- # Help (https://myaifamilyfriend.com/help) ## Getting started Create an account with a name for your companion to call you, an email address, and a password of at least 8 characters — you'll also need to confirm you're 18 or older, since this product isn't for minors. From there, a short conversational onboarding sets up your companion, and then you land on Today, your home screen. - Terms of use: https://myaifamilyfriend.com/terms ## Confirming your email We send a verification email the moment you sign up. Until you click it, you'll see a soft banner reminding you — it doesn't block anything, so you can start chatting with your companion right away while the email sits in your inbox. ## Today and rituals Today is your home screen: a time-aware greeting, a one-tap mood check-in, gentle nudges toward your goals, family activity, and 'rituals' — morning, evening and weekly modes that give the day a little shape without asking much of you. ## Chatting with your companion Chat lives at /app/chat, and replies stream in as they're written. On any reply you can copy it, save it as a memory, or ask your companion to try again. If you'd rather listen than read, turn on voice replies in Settings to have replies read aloud. Curious what actually happens to a message you send? - How the AI works: https://myaifamilyfriend.com/ai ## How memory works Your companion keeps structured memories of what you tell it, separate from the raw conversation, so it still remembers once a chat has scrolled out of view. Every memory is visible in the Memory browser, where you can edit, pin, archive or delete it, and each one links back to the conversation it came from. - How memory works: https://myaifamilyfriend.com/how-memory-works ## Goals Create a goal and write down why it matters to you — your companion remembers the reason, not just the target — then log updates and progress as you go. ## People and muting Track the people in your life with their relation to you and their birthday, so your companion can ask about them naturally. If a relationship has become painful — a loss, a falling-out — you can mute a person so they're left out of prompts and journal entries. ## Journal Once a month, your companion writes a grounded journal entry drawn from your own memories, not a generic prompt. A 'Looking back' card on Today links straight to it. ## Family spaces Invite family members by code to share presence, stories and care notes — each with its own consent switch, so nothing is shared by default. Care notes about a specific person require that person's own opt-in. There's also a weekly family digest and a printable storybook view. ## Safety plan and crisis support Your private safety plan lives at /app/safety. If you're in crisis, the crisis support page lists free, confidential helplines matched to your country. - Crisis support: https://myaifamilyfriend.com/crisis ## Settings Settings is where you shape the experience: your companion's interaction style, an accent theme, accessibility options, the language your companion replies in (English, Thai, German, French or Spanish — the app interface itself stays in English for now), and how long conversations are retained before they're cleared. - Accessibility: https://myaifamilyfriend.com/accessibility ## Two-factor authentication and devices Turn on two-factor authentication with any authenticator app and you'll get 8 backup codes in case you lose your device. Settings also lists your active devices, so you can revoke any session you don't recognise. - Security: https://myaifamilyfriend.com/security ## Exporting or deleting your data Export everything as a single JSON file at any time from Settings. You can also delete all of your memories, or delete your account and everything attached to it — deletion is immediate and permanent. - Privacy, plainly: https://myaifamilyfriend.com/privacy ## Still stuck? Email hello@myaifamilyfriend.com and a real person will read it. This is a one-person operation, so a reply may take a few days rather than a few minutes — there's no phone line or live chat, but every message gets read. --- # Terms of use (https://myaifamilyfriend.com/terms) Last updated: 1 September 2026 ## 1. Who may use this You must be 18 or older to create an account. We ask you to confirm this at signup, with a checkbox that reads "I'm 18 or older and agree to the Terms." If you're under 18, please don't use this service. ## 2. What this is My AI Family Friend is an AI companion — software that holds a conversation and remembers things about you over time. It is not a person, however it may sound. It is designed to be strictly platonic and non-romantic, and that's not a setting you can turn off. ## 3. What this is not This is not therapy, and not medical, legal or financial advice. It is not a crisis service and is not built to handle emergencies. It is not a substitute for professional help, or for the human relationships in your life. If you are in danger or in crisis, please contact your local emergency services. - Crisis support: https://myaifamilyfriend.com/crisis ## 4. AI output can be wrong The model behind your companion can produce text that is inaccurate, out of date, or simply inappropriate for the moment. Don't rely on it for consequential decisions — financial, medical, legal or otherwise. You're responsible for what you do with what it says. - How the AI works: https://myaifamilyfriend.com/ai ## 5. Your account Keep your login credentials secure and don't share them. Accounts are for one person each — please don't create or use an account on someone else's behalf. You're responsible for activity that happens under your account. ## 6. Your content You keep ownership of what you write. We store and process it only to run the service for you — to generate replies, build your companion's memory, and support features like family spaces. We don't sell your data, we don't run advertising, and we don't train AI models on your conversations. - Privacy, plainly: https://myaifamilyfriend.com/privacy ## 7. Acceptable use No illegal use. No harassment of others. No attempting to break, overload or scrape the service. No using it to generate content that sexualises minors or incites violence. And within a family space, don't put someone else's sensitive information there without their agreement — it's their information too. ## 8. Family spaces The person who writes something into a family space is responsible for having written it. Sharing is per-category and consent-based: a care note about a specific person is only meant to be shared once that person has opted in themselves. ## 9. Preview status The service is currently free while in preview, and no card is required to sign up. It's provided "as is," features may change or be removed as it develops, and we don't guarantee any particular level of uptime. ## 10. Ending it You can delete your account at any time from Settings. Deletion is immediate and permanent. We may suspend an account that breaches these terms. ## 11. Liability Our liability is limited to the maximum extent the law allows. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot legally be limited. ## 12. Changes, and contact We may update these terms as the service develops; the date below reflects the latest version.
